AKC Canine Partners Launched with Support &
Interest from Clubs & Fanciers
Clubs Can Now
Apply To Hold Classes For Mixed-Breed Dogs
At Stand-Alone Companion Events Starting
April 1, 2010
Last month, the American Kennel Club
launched its new AKC Canine Partners
program. In just a few short weeks, more
than 1,200 mixed breeds have enrolled and
more than 365 AKC events have been approved
to hold mixed-breed classes.
With the launch of the AKC Canine Partners
program, clubs have a fantastic opportunity
to attract new members as well as entries
for upcoming events. This program provides a
great way for clubs to reach out to other
dog-loving organizations in your community.
Working together with veterinarians,
groomers as well as shelters, clubs can
provide training classes and events that
other organizations’ clients and customers
can participate in.
Encourage your local mixed-breed dog owners
to enroll in AKC Canine Partners to take
advantage of the programs and benefits AKC
has to offer, including enrollment in AKC
Companion Animal Recovery pet recovery
service and a one-year subscription to AKC
Family Dog magazine. Alerting dog owners to
ways AKC helps keep all dogs happy, healthy
and safe is something we can all be proud to
promote.
To learn about all the exciting components
of this new program, take a look at the new
web site
www.akccaninepartners.org. The web site
includes updated show trial applications for
clubs to apply for mixed-breed classes at
upcoming events. If you would like to add
mixed-breed classes to an eligible event for
which you have already applied, your club
may still do so. Contact the Event
Operations Department via email at
eventplans@akc.org or by phone at
919-816-3579.
If you have any further questions regarding
this program, please feel free to contact us
directly at
akccaninepartners@akc.org.
With your help, we look forward to sharing
with this new pool of dog lovers the
excitement and joy of AKC Companion Events.
Thank you for your continued support of AKC.

IMPORTANT - New Standard Revision
Information |
This
is the Power Point presentation which will be
given at the GDCA General membership meeting. The
"Options" for Standard language are only examples
and are not final nor are they all inclusive of
all the suggestions we have received. They are
included only to provide some examples of possible
new language. Many more versions could be created.
These are just a few common ones and provide a
range of possible wording. Hopefully they will
provide members with further food for thought for
this important discussion. The Standards Committee
is grateful to the members who have taken the time
to review and comment thus far. We continue to
seek your input on these proposed Standard
changes.
Thank you for your participation.

Standard Revision Information"

UPDATE
FROM THE STANDARDS COMMITTEE |
Several weeks ago we made available, via our GDCA
website, a Power Point presentation which
contained 4 examples of possible rewording of the
harlequin description. The Power point was
presented at the general membership meeting and
the Committee received a variety of comments.
After the meeting we received another suggestion
for language to describe the Harlequin. It is
believed that a significant number of Harlequin
breeders support this language. Hence we are
making it available for all members for review and
comment. Since the Power Point included 4 Options
for Harlequin Standard language we will refer to
this new language as Option 5.Please review it and
provide us with your input. You may also continue
to provide input on the Forequarter description
Options 1 and 2 as well as other areas. We are
grateful to those members who have taken the time
to comment and encourage all members to do so.
Your comments should be sent to Jane Treiber Chair
care of Sue Davis Shaw at of
Davisdane@worldnet.att.net. Thank you for your
continued participation in this important process.
OPTION 5
New
language is in red and deleted language is
underlined.
Harlequin--Base color shall be pure white with
black torn patches irregularly and well
distributed over the entire body; a pure white
neck is preferred.
Merle patches are normal. No
The black patches should never
be so
large that
it appears to be
enough to give the appearance of a
blanket., nor so small as to give a stippled or
dappled effect. Eligible, but less desirable,
are a few small gray patches, or a white base
with single black hairs showing through the
white base coat,
which tend to give a salt and pepper or dirty
effect
appearance.
Just to make it easier to read this is the
proposed new version as it would read without the
deletions shown.
